Your own mailbox, over SMTP and IMAP
Workflows could already send email through Postmark, Resend, SendGrid or Mailgun, and read Gmail with OAuth. Mail that lives anywhere else, such as Fastmail, iCloud, a web host or a company's own server, was out of reach. It isn't any more.
What's new
- SMTP. Send from your own address through your own server. The
send_emailtool is the one the providers use, so a workflow can switch to SMTP without changing, and allowed recipients works the same way. - IMAP.
search_messagesfinds mail by sender, recipient or cc (any of several), subject, text, date or age, read and flagged state, attachments and size, andget_messagereturns a message as plain text with a list of its attachments. Reading never marks a message read. - Searching on a schedule. Every search returns a cursor. Remember it and pass it back, and the next search returns only what has arrived since, oldest first, carrying on where it left off when there's more than one search's worth.
- Changes only when you allow them. Tick Allow changes to let workflows mark messages read or flagged and move them, to Archive or Trash for example. Nothing deletes a message outright.
Both connections always use TLS and check the server's certificate. Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo and Fastmail need an app password rather than the account's own.
See your own mail server for setup.
